Who is Sir John Kirwan?
Former All Black, 1987 Rugby World Cup winner, and mental health advocate, Sir John Kirwan (known to most as “JK”) is the co-founder of Mentemia.
JK became the face of mental health in New Zealand when he fronted a campaign to raise awareness about depression. He has spent several years at the forefront to heighten public awareness of depression, an illness he has suffered from himself.
Humbled and honoured are how JK describes his contribution to this cause - the same words he uses to describe his knighthood in 2012 for his services to mental health and rugby. His energy and commitment to share his story has led him to create the mental wellbeing app Mentemia with Adam Clark.
Is the app free?
Yes, Mentemia is always free for the end-user. Mentemia is paid for by businesses who gift the app to their employees.
We made a free version of Mentemia available to the Australian and New Zealand public to help through the COVID-19 crisis. The app is free until at least October 2020 in New Zealand and November 2020 in Australia. We will be revisiting this as the COVID-19 situation evolves.
I already use Mentemia with a free personal account. How do I link it with my workplace when the free public version is no longer available?
If your workplace signs up to Mentemia as an employee benefit, you’ll be able to link your personal account to your workplace. This means you’ll be able to continue to use the features and benefits of Mentemia. We are currently working on this solution and will publish an update as soon as possible.
What devices are supported?
For the optimum experience, we recommend using the following devices and operating systems:
Apple iPhone, iPod Touch with iOS 10+
Android phones with Android 5+
The app will also function on most tablets (iOS & Android) but we recommend using it on your smartphone for the best experience.
Is Mentemia available outside of Australia and New Zealand?
Mentemia is currently only available in Australia and New Zealand, but this is definitely something that we are looking at.
Please register for our newsletter on our website (scroll to the bottom) so we can keep you updated.
My company just launched Mentemia! How do I get started?

And follow these instructions to create an account and start exploring!
